GAINESVILLE-The Hall County Planning Commission will discuss the controversial Mar-Jac feed mill request at Monday night's meeting.

Mar-Jac wants to rezone an area next to the Lula City limits for the proposed mill. The Commission tabled the issue last month after a letter sent to Lula residents contained inaccurate information.

Lamar Mullis is on the Board of Directors for the East Hall Coalition, a grassroots organization opposed to the mill plan. "We think that this is just an unreasonable and inappropriate use of land, to come into really a residential area, in an area that's earmarked for in the future to be rural residential.

When asked how many people he thought would turn out for Monday's planning commission meeting, Mullis said numbers aren't too important. "We think at this point really more important than the numbers are the arguments. That's what is going to prevail in this decision and we feel like we've got the arguments."

The Planning staff submitted 75 letters of support for the mill. Only a few letters were written in opposition. However, residents protesting the mill filled the room at the February meeting.

A host of Lula residents turned out in opposition to the mill plan when it was before their city officials.
