OAKWOOD - Gainesville College Assistant Professor of Spanish, Bunderlai Souto Dunham, has been chosen to participate in the <br>
National Institute for Leadership Development, LEADERS program, an international program for administrators and faculty in higher education. <br>
<br>
This year-long program, designed to enhance the skills participants need to assume major decision making roles in their institutions, includes institutional practice in supervisory and human relations skills, planning <br>
and budgeting, and organiational transformation as well as discussions with <br>
national experts on the issues confronting higher education during the next decade. <br>
<br>
During the program, Bunderlai Souto Dunham will be mentored by Dr. Penny Mills, Director of Professional Development, Gainesville College, to work on projects that will aid the institution and foster individual professional <br>
growth. <br>
<br>
LEADERS participants are chosen for their professional abilities, their interests in advancement in higher education, and the quality of their proposed projects. <br>
<br>
The National Institute for Leadership Development is internationally recognized by colleges, universities and businesses for its visionary, holistic programs that produce leaders who effectively challenge assumptions, <br>
eliminate barriers and create new pathways to successful solutions. <br>
<br>
Bunderlai Souto Dunham, in her 30 years of teaching, including three at the Gainesville College, has been active both on national campuses and in the University System of Georgia. <br>
<br>
Her significant achievements at Gainesville College include the direction of customized Spanish courses for community professionals including publication of several customized manuals for workplace Spanish training, representation of the College at the America's <br>
World Council, two successful years of student participation in a statewide Spanish composition competition with other Georgia universities. <br>
<br>
She is currently involved in various College committees including The Wellness Task <br>
Force, the Minority Recruitment Committee, the Special Recognition Committee (Hispanic subcommitee), the Honors Awards Commitee, and others. <br>
<br>
She recently received Certification in Medical Interpreting. Ms. Dunham was a speaker at the Foothills Area Health Education Center Seminar in March 2001 with the topic A Cross-Cultural Look at Caring for the Hispanic Patient. <br>
Bunderlai is married to Adam Dunham, an architect and builder of custom homes <br>
and owner of The Dunham Company.
