Phillies' Bowa suspended for one game

BRADENTON, FLORIDA - Philadelphia Phillies manager Larry Bowa was suspended for one game and fined Thursday as a result of his ejection during the first inning of a spring training game on March 9. <br> <br> Bob Watson, baseball&#39;s vice president of discipline, said he made the decision, citing Bowa for ``his inappropriate conduct toward the umpires before and after his ejection.&#39;&#39; <br> <br> Bowa will be allowed to manage Philadelphia&#39;s opener at Atlanta on April 1, then will be suspended for the Phillies&#39; next game, at Turner Field on April 3. <br> <br> He plans to appeal the suspension, a Phillies official said Thursday during the team&#39;s game against Pittsburgh. <br> <br> In the split-squad game against Cleveland, Bowa charged out of the dugout, was ejected within seconds and continued shouting for another 90 seconds in a face-to-face confrontation. <br> <br> Later, Bowa admitted being upset umpires didn&#39;t call strikes on a pair of checked swings on pitches by David Coggin. <br> <br> ``They missed two calls in the first inning and cost the kid four runs,&#39;&#39; Bowa said then. ``Make the calls. Coggin threw the ball unbelievable. It should have been a 1-2-3 first inning.&#39;&#39;
