ATLANTA - A man who ``just sort of lost it'' after being fired from his job pulled off four holdups with a cap pistol during a span of four hours Thursday before being caught, police said.

Jason Lappe, 28, was in line at a Burger King just three blocks from police headquarters when officers, alerted to look out for his SUV, arrested him, robbery Sgt. Archie Ezell said.

Police found a silver cap pistol resembling an Old West six-shooter in his pocket, and about $400, Ezell said.

``We don't know if he was just hungry or waiting in line to rob the place, but he was shocked when five officers showed up,'' the detective said. ``He was apologetic, said he had lost his job in real estate, and his job was everything.''

Police spokesman Sgt. John Quigley said officers were watching for an SUV like Lappe's after holdups at a convenience store before 7 a.m. and a laundry at 7:30 just outside Atlanta.

Ezell said Lappe will be charged in Atlanta with robbery of a gas station about 9 a.m. and a Subway sandwich shop a half-hour later.

``He was really moving,'' Ezell said.
