GHS edges RMA for Hall T&F Title

GAINESVILLE- The Riverside Military track team almost proved to be rude hosts in the Hall County Track and Field Championships held Wednesday at the school. The Eagles literally gave Gainesville a run for their money, but in the end, the Elephants edged RMA by four points to take the 2002 Title. GHS was runners-up last year to West Hall. The Spartans finished third this year. The final team scoring went Gainesville-137; RMA-133; West Hall-86; North Hall-67; Johnson-61; and East Hall-12. Although it would have been good to win it, Riverside coach Jerry Edmonson said considering Riverside's size, the great athletes Gainesville has to lose by four was not so bad. The 1600 meter relay ended in a bit of controversy due to contact. The ruling went Gainesville's way. "Anytime it comes down to the final event, you can't complain. We're just glad to get that close. That's what a championship meet should be about anyway," Edmonson said. "We had an opportunity at the end, but it didn't go our way, so that's alright." Edmonson added the meet was good for everybody: coaches, athletes, and fans. The girls compete for the County Title Thursday at Gainesville.
