NEW YORK - Authorities said Monday that about 75 members of the Pagans biker gang crashed a motorcycle and tattoo expo as part of a turf war with the Hells Angels.
One man was shot dead and least 10 others were injured Saturday during the fighting at the motorcycle and tattoo expo called the Hellraiser Ball held at a hall in Plainview, N.Y.

A federal complaint filed Monday said three Pagans told an FBI agent that "the Mother Club was in control of the trip and had directed the out-of-state chapters to crash the Hellraiser Ball in a show of force."

The complaint names 73 reputed Pagans, accusing them of being part of a racketeering enterprise. They were charged with rioting in the first degree, attempted gang assault in the first degree, and weapons charges, police said.

The Pagans believe Long Island is their territory, dating back several years to when they were the predominant motorcycle group, said Nassau County Chief of Detectives Herbert Faust.

The Hells Angels' presence began to grow in 1998, when police arrested more than 40 Pagans, including two leaders.

Police seized hundreds of weapons at the expo, ranging from knives to an Uzi.
Raymond G. Dwyer, 38, of Oceanside, N.Y., is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Robert Rutherford, 51, an alleged Pagan member from Lancaster, Pa.
Dwyer was ordered held without bail at his arraignment hearing Sunday.
