DALTON - A Chatsworth man pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in a drug-related fatal shootout last summer and was sentenced to 11 years in prison and nine years probation.
The plea Friday by Floyd Ray Croy in the slaying of Timothy Ledon Horn of Dalton avoided a murder trial that was to begin Monday.
Another man involved in the shootout, Hiram Paul Holloway of Tunnel Hill, pleaded guilty Friday to aggravated assault, avoiding an additional charge of aggravated battery. A judge set sentencing for Feb. 11.
Police said the July shooting happened when Croy, 32, went to collect money Horn owed him for methamphetamines. Croy's girlfriend was shot in the face but recovered.
District Attorney Kermit McManus said he believes the plea bargain was the best resolution to the Croy case because it would have been difficult to prove murder in a trial.
