Florida Atlantic beats Mercer, 72-71

BOCA RATON, FLORIDA - Raheim Brown scored 23 points to lead Florida Atlantic to a 72-71 victory Monday over Mercer as the Owls maintained a first-place tie in the Atlantic Sun Conference. <br> <br> The Bears (3-20, 1-13) had a chance to win, but Jay January missed a 25-footer at the buzzer. <br> <br> The Owls (13-8, 10-4) missed several opportunities to clinch victory. After Mercer&#39;s Noel West hit a jumper with 17 seconds left to cut the Owls&#39; lead to 72-71, Jeff Cowans missed two free throws to give the Bears a chance to break their losing streak, which now stands at 13. <br> <br> Aleem Muhammad led Mercer with 23 points. <br> <br> Florida Atlantic remains tied with Troy State, which beat Central Florida on Monday.
