DECATUR - Fashion analysts have long claimed that when economic times are tough, women accessorize more instead of dropping big bucks for new outfits.

That simple business axiom has turned the current recession into boom times for a small metro Atlanta company that came up with a twist on the concept of fishnet pantyhose.

Spanx fishnets feature a control top that holds in unwanted bulges and makes the wearer look a size smaller. That appealed to many women over the food-happy holidays.

Spanx introduced its fishnets in November and high-end stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus can't keep them on the shelves.

Gerald Celente, director of the forecasting center Trends Research Institute, says he thinks fishnet stocking are making a comeback in part because of the September eleventhterrorist attacks.

He says he believes people are ready to let loose and have a good time because there may not be a Wednesday.

The company sold more than 3,000 pair of the $26 fishnets -- in black or nude -- in the first month. They're available at 725 stores worldwide.
