Mercer snaps 13-game losing streak

MACON - Aleem Muhammad scored 27 points, and Mercer used a late 10-2 run to break open a tie game en route to an 81-68 Atlantic Sun Conference victory over Belmont Thursday night. <br> <br> Justin Howard added 17 points and a team-high 10 rebounds for the Bears (4-20, 2-13 conference), who halted a 13-game losing streak. <br> <br> Wes Burtner led Belmont (9-13, 6-9) with 20 points, while Adam Sonn scored 16 and had 13 rebounds. <br> <br> Howard shot 6-for-6 in the first half, scoring 13 points as Mercer took a 34-30 halftime lead. The second period was a battle for 16 minutes until the Bears pulled away down the stretch. <br> <br> Belmont tied the score at 61 with 4:32 remaining, but Muhammad scored on two jumpers and two free throws to make it 67-61, and Mercer was ahead to stay.
