Dahlonega representative offers liquor bill

ATLANTA - Several members of the Georgia House sponsored a bill Monday that would change the way small towns such as Dahlonega vote on whether to allow Sunday sales of beer and wine at restaurants or hotels.<br> <br> Republican Representative Amos Amerson said the bill was requested by his hometown of Dahlonega, which plans to hold a referendum on Sunday sales, as required by law. Counties like Lumpkin, with more than 64,000 people, aren&#39;t required to hold a referendum before allowing Sunday alcohol sales.<br> <br> The ballot now asks whether voters want to approve Sunday sales of ``distilled spirits,&#39;&#39; or liquor. Amerson wants that changed to say ``malt beverages and wine&#39;&#39; so people aren&#39;t confused about what can be served. <br> <br> Several north Georgia representatives joined Amerson on the bill, which goes to the House Regulated Beverages Committee for consideration.
