MORROW - A 16-month-old boy died after an electric short caused a fire that gutted his home, authorities said.

Morrow fire Chief David Wall said the fire started about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in a lamp near a living room window. Fire officials were not immediately called to the house, where a non-English speaking caretaker was baby-sitting young Victor Truong and his 3-year-old sister, Wall said.

``Our 911 call came from a business in Morrow where someone who spoke English had been called and told of the fire,'' Wall said.

Vietnamese police interpreter Trung Lee said the caretaker went to the bathroom and returned to find a room filled with smoke. She got the girl out but was unable to save the boy.

The parents were at their newly opened business in Sharpsburg, about 30 miles away.
