SEATTLE, WASHINGTON - RealNetworks and NASCAR.com have signed an agreement to broadcast races online, but NASCAR fans will have to start paying for it.
Under the deal, NASCAR.com, which is owned by Turner Sports Interactive, will launch a service called TrackPass that lets fans hear races and commentary, listen in as drivers communicate with pit crews and access statistics over the Internet. Fans also will be able to see video clips of favorite races, but there will be no live video coverage of the races online.
The TrackPass service will cost $29.95 a year, or $4.95 per month.
Fans used to be able to hear NASCAR races online for free, but RealNetworks spokeswoman Lisa Amore says that will no longer be offered under the new deal.
