ATLANTA - Remember that two-wheeled, self-balancing scooter introduced last year?

Now state lawmakers are trying to figure out a speed limit for the invention.

State law prohibits people from driving motor vehicles on sidewalks and other pedestrian paths. State Senator Steve Thompson of Powder Springs has introduced a bill to legalize it.

The question -- whether to give the machines a speed limit of 15 miles an hour or eight miles an hour.

The Segway Human Transporter was introduced by inventor Dean Kamen. It can go up to 12-and-a-half miles an hour.
Thompson introduced his bill at Kamen's request.
