Two people found dead in trunk of burning car

RUTLEDGE - Authorities have identified a man who was found dead with a woman in the trunk of a burning car in Morgan County. <br>

Both victims were from Maryland, said Angie Benson of the Morgan County Sheriff's Office in Madison. She said the man was identified as Alan G. Bates, 30, of Frederick. There was no positive identification of the woman Monday, Benson said. <br>

The car, a 2000 General Motors model, had been rented in Birmingham, Ala. It was found burning early Saturday in Rutledge, just north of Interstate 20, about 45 miles east of Atlanta. Investigators were sent to Birmingham. <br>
<br>
The pair were found after firefighters extinguished the blaze. The bodies were sent to the state crime lab in Decatur for autopsies.
