Witty wins another gold for U.S. skaters

SALT LAKE CITY UTAH- They're celebrating in West Allis, Wisconsin, today. That's because their hometown girl Chris Witty is an Olympic gold medalist and world-record holder. Witty won the gold in the women's one-thousand meter speedskating final in world record time of one minute, 13-point-83 seconds. <br>

Witty was diagnosed with mono last month, and it's affected her training. She often skates one day and rests the next. <br>

Fellow American Jennifer Rodriguez of Miami took the bronze in the one-thousand skating event. <br>

American Todd Hays missed a bronze medal by just three-hundredths of a second in the two-man bobsled. Germany's Christoph Langen won the gold. <br>

Americans finished fourth in the Nordic combined skiing event, the best finish for the U-S ever in that event. <br>

The U-S women's curling team beat Great Britain 6-to-5. The U-S is tied for third with one match left in the round-robin standings. The top four teams go to the medal round. <br>

Canada's hockey team made up for its opening-game loss to Sweden by nipping Germany 3-to-2 last night. Pittsburgh Penguins star Mario Lemieux (leh-MYOO') sat out the contest with a sore hip. Lemieux expects to play today when Canada plays the Czech Republic. <br>

Germany leads the medal count with 22. The U-S is second with 18, including four gold, seven silver and seven bronze. <br>
