DECATUR - A grand jury in DeKalb County is scheduled to hear the case involving former Sheriff Sidney Dorsey Tuesday.
The grand jury is expected to hear as many as 50 witnesses -- among them former jailer Patrick Cuffy. Cuffy has told authorities he helped kill Sheriff-elect Derwin Brown on orders from Dorsey.
The grand jury probably will look at more than Brown's December 2000 assassination. Brown ruined Dorsey's re-election bid based on a campaign of reforming the sheriff's office.
Court documents indicate District Attorney J. Tom Morgan is contemplating racketeering as well as murder charges against Dorsey. Morgan has hired a special assistant who is an expert in racketeering prosecutions.
