RINGGOLD - Police shot and killed a suspect in a Barnesville shooting after a high-speed chase during which nine cars were struck.
David Eugene Kinney, a 35-year-old from Barnesville, led officers through Whitfield and Catoosa counties Tuesday, stopped in a Ringgold store parking lot and ran into a wooded area, Catoosa County Sheriff Phil Summers said.
Two Catoosa County officers, one Georgia State patrolman and one Tunnel Hill officer warned Kinney to stop, police said. Kinney then yelled, ``I'm not going with y'all,'' Summers said.
Police said Kinney reached behind his back and, as he brought his hand forward, all four officers shot. He died at the scene.
The four officers have been placed on administrative leave pending investigation of the incident, Summers said.
The chase began around 5:24 p.m., after Kinney tried to use a stolen credit card to rent a room at the Best Western motel in Rocky Face, Summers said. The credit card had belonged to a Barnesville woman Kinney allegedly shot, he said.
Summers said Kinney got nervous and fled north in his truck. He was involved in a hit-and-run at U.S. Highway 41 and Interstate 75 and later struck a Ringgold police car and a Catoosa County police car, police said.
