Three-car collision leaves three dead

COVINGTON - A three-car crash in northern Newton County Sunday killed three people, including a 2-year-old girl, police said. <br> <br> The accident occurred about 7 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 138 and Gum Creek Road, just south of Walnut Grove. <br> <br> Jacqueline Hoover, 20, of Covington, ran a stop sign and struck an oncoming Ford Explorer driven by David Gordon Jr. of Lithonia, Georgia State Patrol Trooper R.D. Moody said. <br> <br> Gordon, 51, lost control of his car, crossing over the center lane and colliding with an Oldsmobile Delta 88 traveling in the opposite direction. <br> <br> The driver of that car, Darlene Pope, 42, of Oxford, and her granddaughter, 2-year-old Elizabeth Valentina, died at the scene. <br> <br> Hoover and Gordon were taken to Atlanta Medical Center by helicopter. Hoover died during the flight. Gordon was treated and released. <br> <br>
