Procter & Gamble finalized the one-year deal with the figure skaters on Sunday as the 2002 Winter Olympics ended. Company spokesman Bryan McCleary declined on Monday to disclose contract terms.
P&G officials also are talking with Sale and Pelletier about a 45-day skating tour in Canada and the United States that would be sponsored by Crest Whitestrips, a teeth-whitening product.
"It's not a done deal. It's in the works," McCleary said.
P&G plans to introduce Crest Whitestrips in Canada this month. It hit store shelves in the United States last May and sales have exceeded $100 million since then, McCleary said.
Sale and Pelletier haven't used Whitestrips, but both said they grew up using Crest toothpaste. Their agreement also calls for them to endorse P&G's Crest Healthy Smiles program, which promotes dental health for poor children.
The skaters earned international attention and belatedly were awarded gold medals after a judging scandal at the Olympic Games.
