CARROLLTON - Three baseball players at the State University of West Georgia were released from jail Sunday after having been arrested, released and then rearrested on a new charge.

Michael L. Perez, 22, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; Barry Allen Sommer, 21, of Eustis, Fla.; and Benjamin Bryant Hodges, 22, of Donalsonville were initially arrested and charged with aggravated sexual battery. They were released on Feb. 14 on $15,000 bond apiece.

They were arrested again on a new charge of aggravated sodomy that same night after police reviewed a videotape of the alleged sexual encounter with an unconscious 20-year-old female student at Perez's apartment on Jan. 31.

Judge Aubrey Duffy agreed to bond for the three men on the condition that they drop out of school and leave Carroll County. The banishment was proposed by defense attorneys and Carroll County prosecutors.
