Piedmont women, West Ga. teams win

The Piedmont College basketball women won the Great South Athletic Conference Tournament Title over Maryville Saturday night. The Lady Lions, who had beaten LaGrange 65-53 Friday night, knocked off top-seeded Maryville 61-49 in the Finals for their 20th win of the year. Maryville had advanced with a win over Fisk University.<br> <br> The Piedmont men (9-17)lost to Maryville 77-45 Saturday.<br> <br> The West Georgia teams split with West Alabama saturday night in the Braves&#39; last regular season games of the season.<br> <br> The West Georgia women (17-9) lost 62-56 with West Hall grad April Martin sooring 13 points.<br> <br> The Braves&#39; men won 80-56 with East Hall alum Chezley Watson knocking in 11 points for West georgia (17-9).<br> <br> The Lady Braves open the Gulf South Conference playoffs with Arkansas Tech (22-4) at 2:00 Friday afternoon in Tupelo, Mississippi. The West Georgia men will follow around 4PM with Southern Arkansas (16-9).<br> <br> Adrian Penland out of West Hall scored 11 points in the Lander University 89-62 loss at Columbus State Saturday night. Penland&#39;s Senators wound up the regular season at 10-16 overall, 6-13 in the Peach Belt Conference.<br>
