LAWRENCEVILLE - Republican Michael Muntean survived a three-way race Tuesday to become the new District 85 state Representative.
Muntean, 41, a consulting engineer from Suwanee, took 62 percent of the more than 1,500 votes cast in Gwinnett and Forsyth counties to avoid a runoff election. The other candidates were Glen Wendt, 43, and Greg Spock Alspach, 39, both of Buford.
The special nonpartisan election came after former state Rep. Bobby Reese resigned for an unsuccessful bid for the state Senate.
