Holbrook and Michael M. Crow, executive vice provost of Columbia University in New York, were chosen from a list of 75 candidates, according to Norma Salas, a spokeswoman for the Arizona Board of Regents.
They were being interviewed Thursday in Phoenix by a search committee selecting a replacement for current ASU president Lattie Coor, who will retire June 30.
Georgia president Michael Adams named Holbrook as provost in June 1998, making her the highest-ranking woman on campus, with a starting salary of $210,000, a car allowance and half a membership in the Athens Country Club.
