Georgia Southern rallies to beat Savannah St.

SAVANNAH - Julius Jenkins, feeling too ill to start, came off the bench in the second half to score 17 points, rallying Georgia Southern to a 74-62 victory over winless Savannah State Tuesday night. <br>

Savannah State (0-4) led 35-28 at halftime, and a jumper by Carlos Smalls gave the Tigers a 45-32 lead with 17:30 to play. <br>

Jenkins then entered the game and the Eagles (4-1) went on a 9-0 surge, cutting the deficit to 45-41 on Jenkins' layup with 13:35 to go. <br>
<br>
Brian Boatwright's layup gave Savannah State a 54-50 lead with 8:56 left, but Jenkins countered with a layup and a 3-pointer that put Southern ahead 55-54 with 5:08 to play. <br>
<br>
Southern ran off 12 straight to take a 69-58 lead with 55 seconds left. <br>
<br>
Frank Bennett also had 17 points for the Eagles and grabbed 11 rebounds. Smalls led Savannah State with 13 points.
