Albany teacher accused of killing father released on bond

ALBANY - A popular Albany high school math teacher charged with murder in the death of his father 12 years ago has been released from jail on house arrest. <br> <br> Fifty-three-year-old William Scheer was released from jail at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday. <br> <br> He was arrested last week on charges that he bludgeoned his wealthy father to death with a golf club in a home they shared. <br> <br> A judge set bond at $65,000 and agreed that Scheer could be released as long as he remained on house arrest and wore an electronic monitoring device. <br> <br> Scheer taught at Monroe High School. The school board will determine whether Scheer will continue teaching. <br> <br> He was arrested after a Dougherty County grand jury indicted him on murder charges in the death of William Henry Scheer, a retired Bell Telephone Laboratories inventor. <br> <br> News reports at the time of the man&#39;s death said the father&#39;s body was found September 13, 1990, in a bedroom chair by two maids. Police said he died from an apparent blow to the head from a golf club. Police said there were no signs of forced entry.
