ATLANTA - An anonymous donor identified only as the Kendeda Fund has given $2.5 million to help Atlanta arts companies through tough economic times.
``This is probably the single most important infusion of capital at one time to specifically address cultural deficits and stabilization,'' Lisa Cremin, director of the Metropolitan Atlanta Arts Fund, said Thursday.
The money will be spread among organizations ranging from struggling small troupes to the National Black Arts Festival and Alliance Theatre.
Groups in a 22-county area with annual budgets under $1 million can apply for money through the Arts Fund, which has been boosting grass-roots outfits for 10 years.
Corporations and foundations are donated fewer dollars to performance and visual arts groups because of a deflated stock market. Governments have also have reduced their support in the face of shrinking revenues.
