NEW YORK - Tom Glavine says New York's reaction to his presence is a lot different than it used to be.

Instead of being the enemy, Glavine is being counted on by New York fans to reverse two years of disappointment against the Atlanta Braves.

A group waited in the cold outside Shea Stadium to greet Glavine and his family as they arrived for a news conference about his three-year, $35 million contract with the Mets.

Glavine then put on a Mets jersey, with his usual Number 47, and the transformation was complete: His 16-year run in Atlanta is over.

Glavine said it probably will be strange until he starts pitching for the Mets. The 36-year-old left-hander never really thought he would leave Atlanta, where he won two Cy Young Awards, posted five 20-win seasons and helped lead the Braves to 11 straight division titles.
