NEW YORK - Iowa quarterback Brad Banks has been named the Associated Press College Football Player of the Year. He led the Hawkeyes to a record of 11-and-1 this season and a spot in the Orange Bowl. Not bad for a young man that never started a college game before the season.
Banks received 24 first place votes in the balloting of the 71 members of the AP college football poll board. He edged Southern California quarterback Carson Palmer by three votes. Miami running back Willis McGahee was third with ten votes.
