December 19 projected as peak package day

ALPHARETTA - United Parcel Service and Federal Express expect December 19 to be their peak holiday delivery days. <br>

Atlanta-based UPS plans to deliver 19 million packages, while Memphis, Tennessee-based FedEx expects to deliver five million. <br>

The companies are bringing in part-time seasonal workers to help. At UPS, that means 60-thousand extra people. <br>
<br>
Shipping industry analysts say the Christmas rush might not be the busiest time for shippers this year. <br>
<br>
Deep discounts driving merchandise off store shelves this month could lead to a busier-than-usual shipping rush to restock the shelves next month. <br>
<br>
UPS and FedEx are prepared for the shorter holiday shipping season this year -- only 17 instead of 21 regular shipping days between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
