ATLANTA - An Atlanta high school received a one million dollar grant from the GE Fund in hopes of increasing the number of students it sends to college.
The grant to Southside High School matches the largest in the fund's history. It's also the largest ever made to the Atlanta Public Schools system.
Just 35 percent of Southside's seniors this year plan to attend two- or four-year colleges and universities. School officials hope the grant will double that percentage by 2007.
The money will go to SAT-preparation and tutorial programs. It also will set up a curriculum-development program for teachers to cover the gap between middle school and high school.
