MARIETTA - Air Force Secretary James Roche met Wednesday with defense contractor Lockheed Martin to discuss the F/A-22 fighter program.
Analysts say the project is too important to the military to be delayed further or cut altogether.
Roche and his aides met privately with Lockheed executives for several hours at the Marietta plant, where the stealth fighter jets are being built. Reporters were kept from the facility during the meeting.
Lockheed told Roche the company is committed to completing the program's development phase and delivering operational fighter jets to the Air Force, according to Lockheed spokesman Greg Caires.
He says ideas for further cost-saving measures are being discussed.
