ATLANTA - A businessman has been convicted of kidnapping a Marietta woman who was found abandoned in a car trunk alongside a Tennessee roadway. The victim was stabbed, bloodied and almost naked, authorities said.
A federal jury Wednesday rejected the claims of James Kucera that the incident was a sexual fantasy game gone wrong.
Kucera, a religious merchandise executive from Tampa, Fla., said he met the 48-year-old woman on the Internet five years ago and had an affair with her shortly after that. He testified she was a willing participant in a mock abduction - part of sexual games they played during their affair in Tampa several years ago.
Both the woman and Kucera acknowledged having sex in public places, experimenting with bondage, and engaging in mock abductions and rapes. But the victim said the affair ended in 1998 when she moved to Atlanta.
She testified Kucera sexually assaulted her after taking her away from a Perimeter Mall parking lot April 23. According to testimony, Kucera was passing through Georgia on a business trip.
``James Kucera is a master fantasizer,'' Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd Alley told jurors. ``He has a twisted mind that has no boundaries.''
The victim said Kucera later handed her off to another man, who put her in his trunk and then left her by a highway, her body wrapped in industrial-strength plastic.
The jury acquitted the alleged accomplice, Kevin Deady, of Indianapolis. Kucera will be sentenced next year.
