MARIETTA - The Marietta City Council voted 5-2 Wednesday to reprimand Mayor Bill Dunaway for confronting a city official and using inappropriate language.
Dunaway confronted the city's economic development director, Brian Freese, earlier this year, but officials would not give details about the incident.
The reprimand was pushed by 22-year veteran Councilman Philip Goldstein. Anthony Coleman and Jim King voted against the resolution.
``I'm familiar with similar situations where a lot more was done and a reprimand was not issued,'' King said. ``I have not written up people who have acted in a more severe fashion.''
Dunaway, who has apologized to Freese, said he was frustrated with the council, but promised not to hold a grudge or seek revenge. Dunaway was elected mayor in 2001.
