DECATUR - DeKalb County officials will vote on a proposal to ban smoking in most restaurants and office buildings.

The plan would make DeKalb County the first metro Atlanta government to pass such strict anti-smoking regulations.

Commissioners are scheduled to vote on the proposal Thursday.

DeKalb County's legislation would ban smoking in restaurants and all county government buildings and private office buildings.

The changes would NOT affect federal, state and municipal buildings in DeKalb County nor businesses in the county's nine municipalities.

Bars also would be exempt.

Hotels could set aside 25 percent of their rooms for smokers under the proposed guidelines.
