ST. MARYS - More federal funding has been approved to help the 900 Durango-Georgia Paper Co. workers who lost their jobs last month.
Federal labor officials approved the money after determining the workers lost their jobs because of increased foreign imports.
``This is the first real positive thing to happen for the former Durango workers, and I would like to see a lot more good news come their way,'' Rep. Jack Kingston, R-Ga., said in a prepared statement.
The additional assistance will become available next month. It includes extended unemployment benefits, employment counseling, relocation assistance, education benefits and health insurance tax credits.
The paper mill, which closed Nov. 15, was one of Camden County's largest employers since 1941.
