SEA ISLAND - The 75-year-old main building of Sea Island's Cloister resort hotel will be torn down next year. It will rebuilt in a 200 (M) million-dollar restoration.
Opened in 1928, the Mediterranean-style resort will be demolished to make way for a new three-building complex along the Black Banks River.
The Cloister must be rebuilt because it doesn't meet modern building standards or Federal Emergency Management Agency flood elevation regulations.
The project will create 51 more guest rooms and add a fitness center, beach club and swimming pools.
