Drill sergeant admits indecent actions with female trainees

AUGUSTA - A former Fort Gordon drill sergeant pleaded guilty Thursday to abusing his authority over trainees and was sentenced to six months confinement and given a bad conduct discharge. <br> <br> Staff Sgt. Eric Smith admitted to indecent actions with two female trainees while he was a drill sergeant in the 73rd Ordnance Battalion, post spokeswoman Marla Jones said. He pleaded guilty before a military judge to violating three rules of the Uniformed Code of Military Justice - sodomy, three counts of indecent acts and two counts of maltreatment of subordinates, she said. <br> <br> Smith, a 16-year Army veteran, was assigned to Fort Gordon in September 2001, Jones said. He was a drill sergeant in the unit&#39;s Headquarters Company and Company A until Feb. 27, she said.
