VALDOSTA - Lowndes County wil become the first of Georgia's 159 counties to offer immediate election results via its Web site, officials said Thursday.
``We've worked very hard to provide a service to the public that keeps them informed and updated on all activities, and this is just one aspect that we're really proud of,'' County Manager Joe Pritchard said.
Aaron Kostyu, assistant information technology director, said Cobb County posts results to its Web site periodically but does not stream them live. Kostyu expects the first results to hit the Web site less than half an hour after polls close at 7 p.m., and expects to have the votes from all 33 county precincts tallied by 8:30 p.m.
Kostyu's boss, Jim Carter, said Lowndes also would look to provide a link to the Secretary of State's elections Web site, which updates statewide returns throughout the evening.
