State Rep. J. Max Davis dies at 65

ATLANTA - State Rep. J. Max Davis, R-Atlanta, died Saturday afternoon after an apparent heart attack. He was 65.<br> <br> Davis, an attorney who once played professional football for the Kansas City Chiefs, was getting into his car after a rally for President Bush at the Cobb Galleria Centre when he was stricken, family members said.<br> <br> Davis was first elected to the House in 1980 and represented portions of north DeKalb County.<br> <br> But Davis was not returning to the House in 2003 because he lost a primary election to fellow Republican Rep. Fran Millar of Dunwoody. Their former districts had been combined into one during the reapportionment of the Georgia House.<br> <br> Davis practiced law in Dunwoody with his son, J. Max Davis II.<br> <br> The conservative lawmaker was proud &#34;that first and foremost he never voted for a tax increase,&#34; his son said. &#34;And he killed a lot of bad legislation.&#34;<br> <br> Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of the Apostle in Atlanta. Survivors include his wife, Mary; another son, Todd Davis; and a daughter, Stacie Davis Rapson.<br>
