DAWSONVILLE - Dawson County has had a long love affair with the automobile. One Saturday night every month, there is a rally in Dawsonville that draws up to 500 classic cars that have been built by their owners.

In many cases, they use parts from junk cars, and, the county commission has been talking about banning such vehicles from the county.

But, the idea was abandoned recently after about 300 people showed up at a commission meeting, most to protest the proposal - and, suggesting it was time to recall at least three commissioners.

There were even reports of threats of violence by people upset with the idea of keeping junk cars out of the county.
