CALHOUN - Police are still not sure why two Gordon County teenagers shot and killed themselves after leading police on an early morning chase.

Police received a complaint about shots being fired in the woods in Gordon County around 4 a.m. Sunday. They saw three teenagers leaving the scene in a pickup truck and started to chase them.

The driver of the truck lost control and got stuck in some mud. But before officers reached the vehicle, the two teenagers in the front of the pickup truck turned their guns on themselves.

They were identified as 17-year-old Norman Lee Anderson and 18-year-old Joshua Timothy Brewer, both of Resaca.

A third passenger, Thad Johnson Baldwin, 18, was not injured.

Maj. Garry Moss of the Calhoun Police Department says the three friends were hunting deer at night, which is against state law.

Local police, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources are investigating the deaths.
