BUFORD - About 200 people likely will lose their jobs the next three years at Makita Corporation of America's Buford plant. There will be no layoffs until at least February.
Human Resources Manager Jim Pearce says the cuts will affect all employees.
Seniority will be considered and some workers will be offered other jobs. Anyone let go will get two weeks of full pay and benefits for every year of service.
Makita is moving its manufacturing to China and will concentrate on assembly, packaging, and distribution in Buford.
The company informed its 500 Buford employees of the plan last week.
