SMYRNA - A Baptist-affliated college in Rome could lose grace with the Georgia Baptist Convention if it refuses to accept the group's choice of trustees.
Unhappy with how the board of trustees were chosen, the convention has been withholding money generated by an endowment fund for Shorter College since January.
Shorter College president Ed Schrader said the school would refuse to seat eight trustee nominees selected by the convention during the group's annual meeting Tuesday.
Earlier, convention members rejected 16 nominees submitted by Shorter College.
``I'm surprised and disappointed,'' Schrader said. ``They didn't even come back to us and ask us to submit more names.''
The Rev. J. Robert White, the Georgia Baptist Convention executive director, said Shorter College would cease being a Baptist college if it refused to seat the convention's trustees.
Schrader said the college's board will meet this week to consider its options.
The two-day annual convention ended Tuesday.
