Emory president retiring next year

ATLANTA - Emory University announced Thursday that President William Chace will retire at the end of the academic year. <br> <br> Chace will retire after nine years as president at Emory. Before that he was president at Wesleyan University in Connecticut. <br> <br> Chace announced the decision at an Emory board of trustees meeting Thursday in Atlanta. He said he plans to take a break and then return to Emory to teach. <br> <br> Emory Board Chairman Ben Johnson the third credited Chace for more than doubling research funding during his tenure and for one billion dollars in new construction since he took the helm in 1994. <br> <br> Chace also taught English course at Emory and wrote two books, one on Ezra Pound and one on T.S. Eliot and Lionel Trilling. <br> <br> A school statement said a search committee would be assembled in the next few weeks but did not name possible candidates for the job.
