Henry County social studies teacher indicted in theft

MCDONOUGH - A Henry County teacher was indicted Wednesday on charges that he took nearly $35,000 from the county affiliate of the Georgia Association of Educators. <br> <br> Jerome Amis is accused of taking the money from the union treasury over a three-year period while he was the affiliate&#39;s president. Accountants for the GAE noticed irregularities and referred them to the district attorney&#39;s office. Amis stepped down from the position about two weeks ago. <br> <br> Amis, a social studies teacher at Henry County High School, has been a member of the McDonough City Council since 1986. He taught in the county school system for 24 years. <br> <br> Officials said it was too soon to say whether Amis will continue teaching.
