AUGUSTA - A faucet accidentally left on overnight at the Augusta-Richmond County Municipal Building flooded three floors forcing several offices and the city's Probate Court to close until next week.
A leaky sink in the fifth-floor microfilm room of Richmond County Superior Court was left on Thursday night while water to the Municipal Building had been cut off for repairs. When pressure was restored, the water began flowing from the faucet and out of a faulty drain pipe onto the floor.
By morning, the leaky sink had soaked carpets and caused damage to the ceilings. There was also damage to computers and electrical lines. Dehumidifiers and industrial fans are working overtime to dry out the building through the weekend.
Courts in the building will likely operate with a skeleton crew through at least Tuesday.
