Arris sells part of its business to Scientific Atlanta

DULUTH - Arris Group Incorporated sold part of its business for $37.5 million and cut more than 300 employees Friday as it shifts its focus to telephone and Internet services. <br> <br> Arris, which is based in Duluth, Georgia, sold a portion of its Transmission, Optical & Outside Plant business to Scientific Atlanta. That part of its business involves lasers and amplifiers that transmit signals across networks that cable operators use. <br> <br> The 300 job reductions include about 80 people who will lose their jobs in the previously announced closure of a testing and maintenance facility in Andover, Massachusetts. About 40 people will transfer to Scientific Atlanta.
