ATLANTA - A little patience may go the distance this week for holiday travelers.
New federal airport screeners and tighter security rules are in place to handle the Thanksgiving rush expected at Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport.

Hartsfield expects about 1.24 million passengers over the next eight days, with peaks of 204,700 on Wednesday and 238,700 on Sunday after the holiday.

Airline and airport officials say this year's Thanksgiving crowds will be slightly larger than last year's but still smaller than in 2000.

Planes will be as full as ever, however, because airlines have cut flights to adjust to reduced volume.
Triple A says travel by all modes - planes, trains and automobiles - will be up about one-point-seven percent nationally from last year. That includes about one million Georgians who are expected to travel 50 miles or more to spend time with family or friends.
