Cowboys rally to defeat Redskins

IRVING, TEXAS - Emmitt Smith rushed for 144 yards in his biggest game of the season, and Dallas beat Washington 27-20 in the renewal of one of the most intense rivalries in the NFL. <br>

Smith carried 23 times, averaging over six yards per carry. He pushed his NFL record career rushing total past the 17,000 yard mark. <br>
<br>
The Cowboys trailed 20-10 before starting a comeback midway through the third quarter when Roy Williams returned the third interception of Danny Wuerffel five yards for a touchdown. Chad Hutchinson's 41-yard scoring pass to Joey Galloway put the Cowboys ahead early in the fourth. <br>

Wuerffel had three TD passes for the Redskins, who fall to 5-7. <br>
<br>
The Cowboys also are 5--7.
